Session Introduction
Japan has one of the most active biotechnology industries in the world, as evidenced by the large number of patent applications and products in the real market. Every day, many pharmaceutical, biotech, medical and healthcare companies, from startups to large corporations, are applying various types of biotechnologies to their businesses and developing novel products.
As seen in the examples of pharmaceutical development in recent years, it has increasingly become difficult for a single company to develop a product by itself, leading to the increasing demands for the opportunities for external collaboration in the areas of R&D and manufacturing. Those current streams enhance the importance of bioecosystems, which include open innovation and outsourced research activities and manufacturing for companies. The government of Japan has released the Bioeconomy Strategy in 2019, concentrating on the formation of bioecosystem, and Japanese academia, local governments and bioindustries are now extensively working according to this strategy.
In light of this circumstances, we have planned this session to introduce current situation of bioecosystems in Japan and leading four excellent Japanese companies, all of which are aggressive in collaborating with Taiwan bioindustry players. We are sure that you will have a chance to hear about their strategies and plans for the collaboration.
We hope that this session will help you accelerate collaborations with Japanese companies.

Session Introduction
Canada boasts a well-established life sciences sector and developed key strengths in AI, precision health, digital health and medtech thanks to its thriving innovation ecosystem and open business environment, underpinned by a national AI strategy.
With more than 1,000 companies and CA$87.4 billion in revenues, Canadian life science companies are distributed across Canada, with robust clusters in Alberta and British Columbia. In partnership with these two provincial governments, the National Research Council Canada (NRC) and Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei (CTOT) is excited to host a Canada-Taiwan Health and Medtech Partnering Forum on Friday, July 25, 2025, during BIO Asia–Taiwan 2025, featuring five outstanding Canadian firms presenting their latest AI, precision health, pharmaceutical, and medical device solutions. Taiwanese senior care company, Jubo Health, will share its experience and insights on Canada-Taiwan business and tech collaboration, and a cutting-edge rehabilitation glove jointly developed by NRC and ITRI will also be showcased at the event.
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from the Canadian businesses and meet with them one-on-one to discuss potential partnership opportunities. Participants will also learn about how to leverage the Canadian International Innovation Program (CIIP)*!
Successfully registered participants will receive a confirmation email five days prior to the event.
* Known as ‘A+ Industrial Innovative R&D Program’ in Taiwan (A+企業創新研發淬鍊計劃).
