Session 2 – AI for Biotech & Healthcare
Date: 24 July (Wednesday) 14:00 – 18:00 Venue: 3F, Bldg. A, CTBC Financial Park, Ballroom B
Head, Health Informatics
Mishal is Head of Health Informatics at AstraZeneca, where his team focusses on leveraging Real World Patient Level Data using advance analytics to aid better decision making in drug development.
Mishal read Chemistry at the University of Surrey and specialised in Computational Chemistry during his PhD, where he utilised advanced computing and modelling techniques to investigate protein dynamics. After a brief sabbatical in investment banking, Mishal returned to research at the Institute of Cancer research, in the Computational Biology and Chemogenomic group before moving to the clinical world at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. Here, he developed a national breast screening medical imaging database and developed algorithms and systems to modernise national breast screening service by predicting high risk patients prior to cancer development.
He is a member of the UK All-Party Parliamentary Group on Artificial Intelligence.
Session Speech Title & Synopsis: Leveraging EHRs to Accelerate Clinical Drug Development
Real world data is generated every day from millions of patients undergoing treatment in the healthcare system. From electronic medical records to insurance claims data these data are increasingly being curated for secondary use to help inform drug development, accelerate research and identify new unmet medical needs. In this talk we show how Astrazeneca is leveraging this data in R&D in order to design new trials, help with patient recruitment and generate data for use as virtual control arms. The issue of privacy and ways to mitigate concerns about data privacy will also be addressed.
