Tzu-Ting Fan

Chairman
Standard Chem. & Pharm. Co., Ltd.

Mr. Tzu-Ting Fan became CEO of Standard Chem. & Pharm. in 2008. The company was founded by his father with an initial capital of NT$500,000 and has since grown into one of Taiwan’s leading generic pharmaceutical companies, now generating consolidated annual revenue of NT$6 billion. Mr. Fan joined the company in 1990 after earning a Master’s degree in Computer Science from UCLA. Over the past 35 years, he has been committed to driving the company’s sustained growth and innovation.
Mr. Fan played a pivotal role in developing the company’s IT infrastructure. Before the era of internet, he leveraged his technical expertise to build an IVR (Interactive Voice Response) system for hospital patient appointments — significantly improving registration efficiency and reducing administrative workload. He also contributed to the implementation of the Bureau of National Health Insurance’s (BNHI) pilot IC Card program in Penghu. Today, with the advent of artificial intelligence, Mr. Fan is at the forefront of integrating AI technologies into various aspects of Standard’s operations.
Understanding that domestic growth alone could not secure the company’s long-term future, Mr. Fan initiated international expansion. In 2000, Standard became the first Taiwanese pharmaceutical company to be inspected by U.S. FDA — which it passed without a single Form 483 observation. In 2017, following the launch of China’s Generic Drug Consistency Evaluation Program, he led a 12-member team to the CPhI trade show in Shanghai, resulting in five technology transfer agreements. When the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in 2020, Standard proactively secured a full year’s supply of APIs from China, ensuring uninterrupted delivery to customers. As a result, the company achieved record-high revenue and profits for three consecutive years during the pandemic.
Mr. Fan hopes to retire well before the age of 70 — much earlier than his father did.

Company Profile

Standard Chem., established in 1967, is a Taiwan-based pharmaceutical company with over 58 years of steady growth. Through prudent management and strategic development, it has become one of Taiwan’s leading generic pharmaceutical manufacturers.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Standard Chem. demonstrated agility and foresight by ensuring uninterrupted supply to hospitals and clinics through proactive planning and swift action—highlighting its ability to respond to evolving market and public health needs.
Since 2016, the company has achieved eight consecutive years of growth in net profit, earnings per share, and dividend payouts.
R&D is at the core of Standard’s long-term strategy, with a focus on high-barrier, technically demanding generic drugs. Over the past three years, the company has obtained 13 domestic and 32 international product approvals, including nine first generics and six Paragraph IV (P4) patent challenge products in Taiwan. Many of these applications were submitted concurrently to both domestic and international regulatory bodies. Standard’s R&D capabilities have earned industry trust, resulting in four CDMO (Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization) projects from Japanese partners—two of which have already launched commercially. One project also received innovation funding from Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs. In addition, the company has entered multiple CDMO collaborations with partners in the United States and Mainland China.
Standard’s achievements in pharmaceutical R&D have been recognized with numerous accolades, including four Gold, three Silver, and eight Bronze Medals from the National Pharmaceutical Science and Technology Development Awards. The company has also received several government R&D grants, including one for a P4 product expected to launch in Taiwan six years ahead of patent expiry.
Beyond its business pursuits, Standard Chem. is dedicated to corporate social responsibility. Through its foundation, the company has donated NT$100 million over the past decade to support children’s education. This commitment has earned it the Ministry of Education’s Social Education Contribution Award (2022) and the Presidential Sports Promotion Award for its long-standing support of youth sports and arts programs.
Standard Chem. remains steadfast in its mission: to improve access to safe, high-quality, and affordable medicines.
