Venture capitalist investing in deep tech startup at Kyoto University's wholly owned subsidiary VC, which manages 34 billion JPY. He also serves as Deputy Director of the Office of Institutional Advancement and Communications (IAC) of Kyoto University.
He finds basic inventions by scientists in nationwide National University in Japan, incubates them with intramural grants to business assets, and forms new startups in any business domain.
Representative portfolios include Kyoto Fusioneering, a first and biggest nuclear fusion company from Japan; aceRNA Technologies, a next-gen mRNA startup; BTB Therapeutics, a pain and cancer immunology company; and LegalOn Technologies, a leading legal tech company. He has led two drug discovery startups to IPOs on the Nasdaq (one of which was a lead investor).
He has a deep understanding of entrepreneurial development and is a founder of ECC-iCAP, Kyoto University's entrepreneurial club and talent bank for startups from academia.
Prior to joining Kyoto University, he had an extensive research background in industry, government agency, and academia, both in Japan and US, such as UC San Diego, The University of Tokyo, AIST and RIKEN. He led the launch of a new business area such as nucleic acid medicine at a leading pharmaceutical company in Japan. He is currently continuing his education and research in the fields of chemistry and medicine. He holds Ph.D. at Pharmaceutical.
