Sonic Balloon is a medical device team for developing high level catheter in Taiwan. We induce shockwaves by ultrasound to treat heavily calcified lesions to optimize treatment procedures, restore blood flow, and lower the risk of balloon angioplasty. We are now at the stage of prototyping, looking for resource for next stage.
Atherosclerosis is a cardiovascular disease that causes narrowed situation in the arteries. One commonly used revascularization therapy is percutaneous transluminal angioplasty, also known as PTA, is a standard procedure using a balloon to open the narrowed vessels; however, blood vessels with heavily calcified lesions are hard to inflate with balloon and may cause rupture of the blood vessels. We combine ultrasound devices with balloon catheter to weaken the heavily calcified lesions, allowing the balloon to be inflated in a safer pressure (under nominal pressure). By this way, patients with heavily calcified lesions can now be treated by balloon angioplasty.
