Najat Khan, Ph.D., is the Chief Data Science Officer and the Global Head of Strategy & Operations for Janssen Research & Development. This combination of leadership roles — unique in healthcare— enables Najat to drive Janssen R&D strategy and fully integrate Data Science and Digital Health across the pipeline, to drive transformational value for patients.
As Chief Data Science Officer for Janssen R&D, Najat has end-to-end responsibility to leverage Data Science to transform discovery and development of medicines across Janssen. Najat leads a team of 100+ data scientists and data engineers who are deeply integrated with and partner with clinicians, researchers, and external partners to drive deep impact across Janssen’s pipeline and portfolio. Najat’s team is focused on applying AI, Machine Learning, Digital Health, and regulatory-grade Real-World Evidence to high-impact problems across Janssen’s Therapeutic Areas and Global Functions. Najat extends J&J’s philosophy of being agnostic to the source innovation and is committed to shaping the Data Science ecosystem via partnerships, acquisitions, and equity investments. Najat co-chairs the J&J Data Science Council, driving the accelerated adoption of Data Science across J&J’s sectors and global corporate functions. Najat sits on the board of Alliance of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare (AAIH).
As Global Head of R&D Strategy & Operations, Najat shapes Janssen’s R&D strategy, spanning key pipeline and portfolio decisions to new strategic initiatives. Najat collaborates with Janssen R&D and broader leadership on a wide variety of cross-functional strategic, portfolio-related, and operational priorities. Najat serves as a core member of Janssen’s pipeline decision-making bodies: Development Committee and Investment Committee.
Prior to joining Janssen, Najat was a Senior Principal at The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) where she led and executed multiple strategic initiatives across pharmaceutical functions, covering topics including strategy, mergers and acquisitions, and operations. At BCG, Najat was a core member of the Healthcare practice and emerging Data Science and Digital practice.
Najat received her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania, with publications in high impact journals such as Nature, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Najat received her B.A. in Chemistry with a minor in Economics from Colgate University.
Najat will speak to the rapidly evolving data science landscape and opportunities to drive impact in pharmaceutical research and development, from drug discovery to clinical development.
