Dr. Hong-Chen Chen was appointed as the Director General of the Department of Life Sciences, of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST).
The Department of Life Sciences is one of five academic departments of the Ministry of Science and Technology, bears the following missions:
● To promote life sciences and technologies development in Taiwan.
● To support academic research of life sciences in Taiwan.
● To establish good life sciences research infrastructures as well as nurturing, training and recruitment of life sciences scientists.
In line with Six Core Strategic Industries announced in 2020, the Taiwan Precision Health Strategy Development Program was launched and promoting through inter-ministerial collaboration. Precision Health is defined as accurately predicting, preventing, diagnosing, and treating diseases based on people’s unique genetic and living conditions. With the SWOT analysis, 3 inter-ministerial implementation strategies, which are Perfecting Precision Health Ecosystem, Fostering Precision Health Supply Chain, and Integrating with Global Health Community, have been planned to achieve 4 goals: (a) establishing Genetic and National Health Insurance Database; (b) developing Precision Prevention, Diagnosis, Therapy, and Healthcare system; (c) developing Precision Epidemic Prevention Products; and (d) exploring international business opportunities for biomedical industry. By accelerating the development of Precision Health, we aim to establish a stronger biomedical industry and the Brand of Taiwan Precision Health.
