Dr. Roger J. Pomerantz received his B.A. in Biochemistry at the Johns Hopkins University (1978) and his M.D. at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (1982).  He completed his Internal Medicine internship and residency training subspecialty clinical and research training in Infectious Diseases and Virology at the Massachusetts General Hospital (M.G.H.) of the Harvard Medical School (1982 -1988) and was selected and served as the Chief Medical Resident at M.G.H (1988). His post-doctoral research training in Molecular Retrovirology was obtained at both the Harvard Medical School and the Whitehead Institute of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.). Dr. Pomerantz is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. 
 
Dr. Pomerantz joined Johnson & Johnson, Inc. as the President of Tibotec Pharmaceuticals, a Virology and Infectious Diseases R&D Company within J&J. where he progressed six new drugs to treat HIV. He was then recruited to and joined Merck Research Laboratories (MRL), as Global Head of the Infectious Diseases Franchise. He also led the integration of the infectious disease franchises of Merck and Schering Plough into a single global franchise. He then became President, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors at Seres Therapeutics and is currently President, CEO and Chairman of ContraFect.  
 
Over his career, Dr. Pomerantz has led the world-wide development of 12 drugs, for HIV, HCV, MDR-TB, CMV, and C Diff. In these roles, Dr. Pomerantz had overseen the completion of over 150 significant business development deals, including clinical stage assets, licensing and partnerships, in 11 different therapeutic areas. He led the structuring of high-value deals and alliances in all major emerging markets, especially in China.
 
His biomedical career has covered key Senior Leadership Positions in Academic Medicine, Small and Large Biopharmaceutical Organizations, and Global Therapeutic Franchises and Business Development/Licensing/Acquisitions in World-Wide. His awards and honors have included election as a Fellow to the American Association of Physicians the American Society of Clinical Investigation, the American College of Physicians, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the American Academy of Microbiology and receiving the President’s Award of the International Society of Neurovirology.
