Yin-Hsong Hsu graduated in Electrical Engineering from National Cheng Kung University with a Bachelor degree. Following research leading to a PhD degree in Computer Science and Information Engineering from National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), he became an Associate Professor in the Department of CSIE at Ming Chuan University from 1996 until 2003. He then joined Acer Inc. in 2003 to take up the position of R&D Manager and organize all PC Software R&D projects. In 2017, he built up Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Analysis teams, led all related projects with primary focus on delivering smart healthcare solutions. His team successfully received Class II medical device clearance for VeriSee DR from Taiwan Food and Drug Administration in 2020. VeriSee DR is recognized as the first AI-based diagnostic software in Taiwan market for retinal image assessment. Dr. Hsu has been assigned as President of Acer Healthcare since then and is currently also a jointly appointed professor at NCTU. His recent expertise includes the development of a number of medical devices to enable better diagnosis hence helping improve the management and treatment of diseases. His mission is to benefit the advancement of the healthcare industry for stakeholders.

Collaboration between Novartis and Acer on Medical Artificial Intelligence - The Power of Cross-industry Partnering

Taiwan has world famous healthcare system, comprehensive healthcare data (especially the NHI) and world leading ICT industry with advanced AI capability. Leveraging the expertise of pharma and technology companies, the collaboration can build a strong smart healthcare ecosystem, to contribute to the enhancement of quality of care, optimization of resource utilization, and also the creation of great economic values for the society.

In this talk, Novartis and ACER will co-present the VeriSee case and share their perspectives how they see the opportunities in the future, and the power of cross-industry partnering.
