Michel Chu is a venture capitalist, serial entrepreneur, mentor, adjunct professor and entrepreneurial coach.  Michel is currently General Partner of Acorn Campus Taiwan, a venture fund focusing on early-stage life science projects.  Michel also serves as a member of the Science and Technology Advisory Council at the Board of Science and Technology of Taiwan’s Executive Yuan.   Meanwhile, Michel co-founded and currently serves as Chairman and acting CEO of VSense, a company developing revolutionary semi-conductor-based biosensors for in vitro diagnostics.  Michel co-founded GigaMedia (NASDAQ: GIGM) in 1997 and led the company through a $4.5B IPO in 2000, the largest non-US Internet IPO at the time.  He also served, on volunteer basis, as the Chief Innovation Officer of BioMedTW – Taiwan government’s program to facilitate and accelerate Taiwan's life science industry during 2017-2019.

Michel has extensive domain expertise in diverse fields from medical devices, mobile Internet, cloud computing to merger and acquisitions.  He has been an active early-stage investor with 20+ years of experiences of coaching, building, developing, inspiring and accelerating entrepreneurial teams.  Michel has demonstrated track records of facilitating start-ups, particularly technology spin-outs from research institutions.  Michel is a respected authority on entrepreneurship and is a sought-after judge / speaker / mentor at leading entrepreneurial activities.

Michel is an adjunct faculty at National Taiwan University, giving courses on Multi-sided Platforms, Medical Device Commercialization, Entrepreneurship, Group Dynamics and Leadership.

AI Strategies for Digital Therapeutic Innovators

The medical devices sector is an area of growth and innovation where researchers and manufacturers are seeking to integrate accuracy with automation.  The effort to make medical devices more reliable, accurate and automated is generating a growing interest in finding ways to integrate AI.   More and more medical devices are using artificial intelligence to diagnose patients more precisely, to treat patients more effectively, and to provide care in a much efficient fashion.
 
In this session, we will explore the various approaches of incorporating AI into the therapeutics area.  This ranges from Management of Chronic Diseases – using machine learning to monitor patients using sensors and to automate the delivery of treatment using connected mobile apps; Medical Internet of Things (IoT) – integrating AI and IoT to better monitor patient adherence to treatment protocols and to improve clinical outcomes; to an entire new class of AI-Based Digital Therapeutics – novel applications that would not be possible without AI.  It is the hope of the speaker that through the sharing of notable examples, this session will help the audience to better understand the multiple potentials of applying AI in the healthcare industry.
