Dr. H. Joon Paek is the Managing Partner of LOTTE Holdings Healthcare & Biopharmaceutical Corporate Venture Capital (Tokyo, Japan) and an Independent Board Member at LOTTE Biologics (Seoul, Korea). With over two decades of experience in the healthcare and biopharmaceutical sectors, Dr. Paek brings a unique blend of scientific expertise and global business acumen.
 
His academic journey spans continents, holding an M.B.A. from Waseda University in Japan, a Ph.D. in Biomedical Science from Brown University in the U.S., an M.Eng. in Polymer Engineering from Kyoto University, and a B.S. in Chemistry from the College of William and Mary. This diverse educational background underpins his multifaceted approach to innovation as well as investment.
 
Dr. Paek’s career encompasses roles in research & development, business and corporate development, regulatory affairs, and venture capital. Notably, he served as Principal Investigator on multiple projects funded by the U.S. Department of Defense and NASA, contributing to 14 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals, including Nature Biotechnology, Stem Cells, and Tissue Engineering. His leadership has also been pivotal in securing regulatory approvals for medical devices in Korea and overseeing clinical trials in Japan.
 
At LOTTE, Dr. Paek focuses on healthcare-focused corporate venture capital investments, targeting innovative global opportunities in antibody therapeutics, antibody-drug conjugates (ADC), and ADC-enabling technologies. He also explores transformative small molecules and medical devices that promise significant social impact.
