Jeffrey Dutton is a career member of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service and currently serves as Commercial Officer at the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), where he leads a team that promotes U.S. exports to Taiwan in aerospace & defense, energy, automotive, consumer goods, and e-commerce as well as promoting Taiwan investment in the United States in these sectors. His posting in Taipei lasts through July 2026. He previously served in the Commercial Section of the U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai from 2019-2022 and at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing from 2017-2019. During his civil service career in Washington from 1998-2016, Jeff also served in the International Trade Administration’s Office of China and Mongolia, Office of the Pacific Basin, Office of the Western Hemisphere, and Office of Automotive Affairs.
Jeff has a B.A. in International Studies and Spanish from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and an M.A. in International Relations from Syracuse University in New York State.
Jeff serves as the leader of AIT’s LGBTQI+ employee group, Glifaa. He lives in Taipei with his husband Patrick Tang.
