William A. Faubion, M.D., is a consultant in the Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Arizona, where he also serves as Dean for Research. He also serves as Executive Director of the Center for Regenerative Biotherapeutics, an enterprise role. Dr. Faubion joined the staff of Mayo Clinic in 1999 and holds the academic rank of professor of immunology, medicine and pediatrics, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.
Dr. Faubion has a focused interest in pediatric and adult inflammatory bowel disease, and his research centers on examining how immune cells make “fate decisions” to become pro-inflammatory and cause the chronic intestinal inflammation of IBD. His extensive clinical research studies have evaluated the efficacy of novel therapeutics (including cell therapies) in adult and pediatric onset Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis as well as novel biomarkers predictive of active and complicated IBD. Funding for his projects has come from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, the National Institute of Allergy and Immunology, the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America, the Leona Helmsley Foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and industry partners.
